Default Black Mamba Cables Now available in custom lengths

Hi folks, there seems to be quite a big demand for our Sterling Black Mamba cables (Black Mamba 2.5 Metre Audiophile Speaker Cables) in lengths greater than the standard 2.5 metres. I have been busy in the workshop and can now offer any length between 2.5 and 5 metres. I have tried them at longer lengths but in my test set up I felt the performance was dropping off beyond about 7 metres so I will make 5 metres the limit. They will be custom made to individual customer's requirements, we can therefore do any length, even different lengths for each cable by special request.

They will be priced at the rate of £85 for the initial 2.5 metres plus £10 per additional 0.5 metres or part thereof. Prices are per pair and include UK P+P, lead time will be 3-5 working days. They will come in individual presentation boxes, they will have the same interchangable terminations and be made of the same materials as the standard length cables.

All lengths quoted are per cable eg. a 3 metre set will be 2 x 3 metre cables.
By way of example a pair at 3.5 metres each will be £105, a 5 metre pair just £135!!

If any forum members want them before I get my listing done please email me at greenhomeelectronics@ntlworld.com, let me know the lengths and I will make them for you.
    All the best,
    Dave,
    Green Home Electronics.

Are they compatible with Naim amps ?

I get the impression that they probably aren't given the very low capacitance, resistance and inductance. This is perfect for valves though. Having said that, I do remember Doug Graham saying back in 2002 that the newer Naim amps can drive a short circuit.

You can't have very low capacitance, inductance and resistance all at once, unless you've repealed the laws of physics! Saying that,I'm enjoying my pair, they are sounding very nice driving my statics.

Aw shucks Ali, what do I know?

I just read what it says on the tin. Thinking about it, lower resistence = greater inductance/capacitance (??) or something like that.

Naim amps need higher inductance than most, because there's no stabilizing inducter before the output. All cables, because none are perfect, have resistance, capacitance and inductance.

Anyways, NACA5 works pretty well, and I think that it's biggest variable is the quality of the soldering for the plugs.

But those Mambas do at least look great, in an audiophile porn kind of way.

    cheers

Hi there, I am not aware of anybody trying them on a Naim amp yet. They should work fine, it will of course depend as much on what speakers you have and how their impedance varies with frequency as what amp you are using. As the cables are very low resistance they could contribute towards a heavy load (low resistance) if your speaker's impedance drops off significantly.
As it says in the listing though, if you are anything less than delighted, send them back for a refund.
    All the best,
    Dave.

Thanks Dave, I'll give it some thought. I'm running through quite a few variables at present, so the speaker cables will have to wait.

My statics need a low capacitance cable, and the Mambas have been a big improvement over my diy twisted twins (Not suitable as they are highish capacitance)

    Default Availability in the States?

    Dave:
How can I buy a set of these Black mamba speaker cables in the states. 3 metres would be great but I will accept 2.5 if that is all that is available.

    Chuck
